About GigWriteOff
Free tax guidance and community support built by gig workers, for gig workers.
Sean, Founder
I built GigWriteOff because gig workers — including me, when I was delivering on the side and figuring out my first Schedule C — get left to work taxes out on their own. Platforms treat you like an employee right up until they hand you a 1099 at year-end.
Every guide on this site is written from the perspective of someone who has actually filed a Schedule C, tracked their own mileage, and made every mistake in the book. If something on this site doesn't hold up when you try to use it on your own return, I want to know.
GigWriteOff is an independently-operated LLC. Everything on the site is free. When an affiliate partnership pays a commission, it's disclosed on the relevant page.
Our Mission
76.4 million Americans work in the gig economy — driving for Uber, delivering for DoorDash, shopping for Instacart, freelancing on Fiverr, and more. Yet most gig workers are left to figure out taxes completely on their own. GigWriteOff exists to change that. We believe every gig worker deserves access to clear, accurate, and free tax guidance. No jargon. No paywalls. No upsells to expensive software.
What We Offer
Platform Tax Guides
Detailed deduction guides for every major gig platform — Uber, DoorDash, Instacart, Lyft, Fiverr, TaskRabbit, and more.
Tax Calculator
Estimate your self-employment tax, quarterly payments, and potential savings from deductions you might be missing.
Community Forum
Connect with fellow gig workers. Ask questions, share tips, and learn from others who understand the hustle.
Who It's For
Whether you're a rideshare driver, food delivery courier, freelance designer, handyman, or any type of independent contractor — if you earn 1099 income, GigWriteOff was built for you.
Our Values
Always Free
Tax knowledge shouldn't be locked behind a paywall. Every guide, tool, and community feature is 100% free.
Community First
Built by gig workers who've been through the confusion of self-employment taxes. Real experience, not textbook theory.
Plain Language
We write for people, not accountants. If a 10-year-old can't understand it, we rewrite it.
